My brother lives in Burlington, Vermont with his family. When my son and I visited they knew I love to find beautiful places to take photos so they took us to this park with a piece of land jutting out into Lake Champlain. The ice was just beginning to crack, ready to open up the next day, said Paul, if the sun came out strong enough. I took photos of this big tree and I loved the shadows and roots everywhere around it. I knew I would paint this sometime.
Our CT Pastel Society is strong and has wonderful shows, more realistic like my art is. So, I found my photo, cropped it to compose a square sized piece and painted my first pastel in a few years.
I am very excited to enter it into our Purely Pastel show at the Lyme Art Association soon.

“I have always considered myself a ‘fine artist’ first, even after over 33 years working in the graphic arts industry.  As a teenager I was able to take oil painting classes and by high school I was stretching large canvases to paint on with the help of my carpenter father.

Each time I paint I feel something special draws me to a scene, the light and shadows excite me and color adds another dimension as the art evolves. I love capturing beautiful, dynamic images with my camera or I-phone today to use as references.

I am primarily a landscape artist who finds herself gravitating to ‘waterscapes’ much of the time. My paintings are realistic and today I use oils primarily but over the past number of years I had developed a love for pastels due to the graphic quality of them and my love for drawing. With oils I prefer working on smooth surfaces including linen and aluminum which are as smooth as glass and force me to approach my paintings in a different way.

As an artist, I always hope that others will share in the beauty I have found as each painting includes a piece of me and my life's adventures.”
