Laurence Cohen, born February 21, 1963, primarily an architect specializing in building restoration, has painted since childhood. At 12 years-old, in Barcelona, she was introduced to oil painting by her grandfather, the Spanish painter Mauricio Hassid-Michael, who guided her through her first painting. Her unfailing artistic inspiration originates in the very warm and special relationship she had with him.
She was taught palstic arts as part of her Achitecture curriculum at university. In 1990, she obtained a Ph.D. in Architecture with high honors. She acquires extensive practice by attending life drawing sessions at l’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, and then at the studios in Montparnasse as well as at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Her numerous trips to the United States, to North Africa, Southwest Asia and Europe keep irrigating her pictorial expression in a very disinctive style influenced by her own architect’s outlook.
