Dolores Wimberly
The artist has been a practicing artist for thirty years, is a graduate of the University of North Dakota and has a Master of Interdisciplinary Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University.

She currently lives in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area, but has made her home in Central Coast California for six years, Southern California for four years and for ten years of her late teen and early adulthood she lived in North Dakota. The artist was born near Wurzburg, Germany. As a military brat, she was able to live in Germany again in her early teen years. While in Europe, she traveled extensively and continues to do so today.

She has always enjoyed drawing and painting the figure and faces. Her journey in art began in junior high school.
Her children have been the inspiration for many of her artworks, as they were all athletes. The artist spent many days and nights attending, cheering and watching the sporting events take place. There were quite a few stories to tell about each of them in their particular sport. The idea of movement was ideal as there were varied types of action within each sport. There were moments of exhiliration of achievement and moments of disappointments in performance as well.

Sports will continue to be an influence in her art as sports headlines and stories dominate our lives. There is an arm-chair athlete in most of us. There have been other inspirations as well; flowers, the wonderful fall woods and leaves that are so gorgeous in the Northern Virginia area. There are also drawings of loved ones for many personal reasons. People, sports and the occasional special inspirations will continue to be a factor in her artwork.
