The comment from the Director, Juliet Harrison (photographer) on "Paint It Black" :

- "When judging a competition like this there are always works that strike you and command your attention from the moment you see them. Paint it Black by Laurence Poitrin is one of those. It's simplicity of line is it's deception. It is in fact a rather complicated piece of art. It is, in my mind, all that I believe Ex Arte Equinus to be. A true piece of contemporary artwork that expresses all of the particular nuances that are equine. It is work like this that keeps pushing the boundaries of the expected and allows the concept of what is "Equine Art" to grow beyond all expectations."

The comment from the Painting judge, Kathi Peters (american contemporary realist painter) :

- "This wonderful mixed media work of black horses and its abstract elements interesting. The artist has a complete understanding of negative space and artistic statement. The design elements are spot on and it is all so "out of the box". I love this painting."

Analyse de l'oeuvre - Paint It Black

"Paint it

(Hors cadre) . J'aime cette peinture.

graphic designer in the 90s.

In 2002 during a trip to Sweden, I fell under the spell of an exquisite gallery of old Stockholm: the Hippo Gallery, specialist in the theme: the horse in art, which encourages me to paint a few horses on canvas with a view to exhibiting there.

1st Exhibition in 2003 of equine-inspired paintings at the Galleri Hippo-Stockholm-Sweden in collective exhibition (2003 – 2008), then in personal exhibition (2009).

By later I will be asked for horse paintings again and that's how I will stay in the equine circuit in spite of myself, but with pleasure nonetheless.
