This painting shows Isis and Osiris as twin brother and sister, maintaining "Maat" in Egypt. The mission of every pharaoh of Egypt was to maintain "maat", which translates as "order, law, balance, truth". Thus Osiris and Isis are shown standing on the tips of their toes, balancing the feather of the Goddess Maat between their hands. Osiris is wearing the crown of Egypt, and Isis has the throne on her head... He is the pharaoh, but she is his throne. Under their feet spreads the fertile land of Egypt...

Osiris is wearing the crown of Egypt, and Isis has the throne on her head... He is the pharaoh, but she is his throne. Under their feet spreads the fertile land of Egypt (Geb, their father) and behind opens the sky of Nut, who was their mother. This image closely related to that of Ardhanari of Shiva & Shakti, when their energies are joined in one whole. This is enhanced by the Sun/Moon symbolism behind their heads. The message of this painting is that though Isis and Osiris are two different entities, they are the same Truth, or Maat.

Oil, tempera, gold & silver leaf, sparkling powder, on canvas.
