Pour la punir, Dieu la condamne à voir tous ses enfants mourir à la naissance. Désespérée, elle décide de se suicider. Les anges lui donnent le pouvoir de tuer les enfants des Hommes (jusqu’à la circoncision, au huitième jour pour les garçons, et jusqu’au vingtième jour pour les filles). Elle rencontre ensuite le démon Samaël, l’épouse et s’installe avec lui dans la vallée de Jehanum, où il prend le nom d’Adam-Bélial.
Pour se venger, Lilith devient le serpent qui provoque la Chute d’Ève, et incite Caïn à tuer Abel. Comme ses enfants s’entretuent, Adam refuse d'avoir des relations sexuelles avec Ève, ce qui permet à Lilith d’enfanter des nuées de démons (avec le sperme d’Adam qui tombe à terre) pendant cent trente ans.
