Symbolisant l'homme moderne emporté par une crise d'angoisse existentielle, elle est considérée comme l'œuvre la plus importante de l'artiste. Le paysage en arrière-plan est le fjord d'Oslo, vu d'Ekeberg. L'une des cinq versions a été vendue par Sotheby's à New York pour un montant de 119,9 millions de dollars. Elle détient ainsi, le 2 mai 2012, le record de vente d'une peinture aux enchères. Elle est aujourd'hui la cinquième œuvre vendue la plus chère aux enchères

born October 31, 1967...from a very young age I will be fascinated by comic book characters...my favorite heroes Spider-Man and Iron Man...so I take a pencil and an A4 sheet and I I'm going to try as best I can to copy them....then at 16 I painted my first canvas...landscapes of Venice...my brush in hand I put on the first layer of color and that's the coup lightning the rage of wanting to continue....Failure is not the opposite of success, it is part of it.
