The felling of trees and the many forest fires affect me deeply.
We keep building, ever higher.
We need oxygen, and the trees need CO2. We give that to each other. Not a difficult calculation, if there are too many CO2 emissions, then we have to plant many more trees. Without oxygen, life for us humans on planet earth is not possible. I wanted to show that nature has a hard time purifying our polluted air. We need trees. They carry us, and all life.
We need to do much more than we have now to save the planet.
Women are an important link between people and nature.
I haven't really found a good name for it yet. Do you have an idea?
I painted it with oil paint and prepared the linen canvas myself.
I hope my painting touches you.

Jennie Smallenbroek is a contemporary Dutch artist. Smallenbroek is a visual artist and teacher, textile and surface graphic designer, textile and pattern designer. Her work is mainly focused on handmade illustration and pattern design applied to various products and surfaces, and is the result of a multidisciplinary learning process involving fashion, fine arts, and textiles.
Smallenbroek studied the techniques of the old masters and has a passion for classical painting. Taught by a number of prominent Dutch artists, such as Cornelis Le Mair and Sam Drukker and followed several courses in Italy at the Angel Academy of Art with Michael John Angel and at the Florence Academy of Art in Sweden.
Jennie Smallenbroek was born in 1966, in the Netherlands. She exhibited her works both nationally and internationally. She is an "Arc Living Artist" at the Art Renewal Center in New York, a foundation dedicated to the revival of realism in visual art.
