Since childhood, Jean Pierre Pepin shows a vivid interest in pictorial art. Importantly, an art professor, perceives his great talent, offers him a box of crayons and pastels, and encourages him to follow the path of art. He passes a lot of time observing the portraits done by several artists in Old Montreal and dreams to do likewise. In his early twenties, he visits the Montreal Art museum and is captivated by the work of the French Painter Bouguereau. After this crucial visit, he decides to take his crayons and pastels again and begins drawing portraits. Having seen his work, friends and colleagues order pastel portraits from him. When he is 29 years old he starts painting landscapes using pastels first and then oil techniques. This activity that began being an entertainment soon becomes a passion. More than 15 years elapse and there is no week in which Jean Pierre Pepin does not engage in painting. Since l990 he participates in a series of exhibitions, symposiums, and workshops in the region of the Basses Laurentides and is honored with several prizes and awards.
