Reflections of the sun between the boats in the water in the port of Cassis. The hull of a boat occupies the upper left-hand part of the canvas. The boat is moored by an anchor whose rope plunges into the harbour water. The water is translucent, ranging from green to blue depending on the light. In the centre of the canvas, the reflection of the sun forms a luminous ball.

Jean Marie Pen was born in 1959 and began painting on canvas in 1994, with his earliest works being black and white portraits with a hint of blue. Then came still lifes and landscapes, one by one, with a palette that was enriched by numerous tones. Only in oil, with no special influences other than a few Northern European artists and their bright masterpieces. Exhibitions in a few locations along the Côtes d'Armor, then in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. Faces, classic still lifes, urban or coastal vistas are among his privileged subjects.
