Bird Of Paradise In Paradise

This painting has many layers of Acrylic paint and many varieties of interesting textures.

The Bird of Paradise is an intriguing tropical flower. Its shape and colors are very interesting. It resembles a brightly colored bird in flight and so it is named Bird of Paradise. I tried to capture its image in this Acrylic painting. The leaves around the flower were made as elegant as the flower itself. Note that all the leaves are gently pointing towards the middle; thus drawing the viewer's focus towards the main subject. Also, the negative space intentionally left on the top right area of the flower is to give the flower its own space. And interestingly, a straight bamboo in the background balances the rest of the composition. The emerald green was used purposely to enhance the beauty of the Bird of Paradise. These various elements blend into a unitary whole that appears to flow seamlessly.

The Bird of Paradise, also known as the Crane flower, is one of the most beautiful exotic flowers. Although a native of South Africa and featured on the South African 50 cent coin, it is nowadays cultivated in many parts of the world. This graceful and elegant flower epitomizes love, luxury, strength, and beauty. Its unusually beautiful shape and brilliant colors have made this flower a designer's favorite. The Bird of Paradise is the official flower of Los Angeles, USA.

Reproductions in various sizes are available on canvas, paper, wood, metal, and Acrylic starting at 25 Euros. Contact the artist.
