Rotation (2018) Collages by Hiba Khatib

With a strong marketing foundation and a long career  spanning over 25 years, Hiba decided to follow her heart and passion and devote her time to her art. In 2012, a project called “ My He~Art My Art/ Atelier Hiba’ was born. In the Hamra neighborhood of Beirut, Hiba created a space where her creativity flows and her imagination grows.In May 2013, and under the patronage of the minister of culture, Hiba El Khatib Badreddine presents her first solo exhibition at the Unesco palace of Beirut. In the presence of many esteemed media members, Hiba presented her art as well as launched her first publication called “ Ce que je veux dire “ ( What’s on my mind ), a series of poems and representations of her art pieces.In May 2014, Hiba takes part of the prestigious Salon International de Collage, that takes place in Paris. This comes after the Jury selected 4 of her pieces to be displayed for the public viewing as well as represented in the  international book for ‘Collage’ artists.Hiba’s specialty is in the art of Collage and the ‘mixed media’. She applies freely on a canvas her imagination through a mix of paper, fabric, paint and other accessories; all along transmitting a magical fairytale.Hiba works the collage on various types of base: wood, canvas, trays,, vases, as well as many types of furniture ( chairs, tables, ..). She sees in everyday pieces, a great canvas; especially furniture, as it adds a great touch of color and warmth to the environment it lives in. Any space can be transformed through the art of collage; Hiba looks for the unexpected to feed her imagination. Hiba chose this art form ( Collage & ‘mixed media” ) to express herself as it is a form that doesn’t impose strict guidelines while still giving room for technical excellence. What she thrives to do, is to transmit a message, an emotion. Being a rebel heart amongst a  traditional society, this art form inspired her to express her dreams and imaginations.The art of Collage is an artistic technique that consists of organizing a plastic creation not following any particular visual rules. It focuses on combining separate elements that don’t have a logical link but that come together through a gradual juxtaposition. The Collage merges painting and sculpture beautifully.Collage is many little pieces of paper, real photographs of everyday life, mix of objects, that all meet on a magical canvas, in a surreal environment that exudes the sensuality of the images and the dynamic effect of that composition. In these pieces of art, Hiba expresses her feelings with human issues, her take on universal causes which translates therefore her view and philosophy on life itself.Collage, as Hiba says, is an art that transports us to the unknown.
