Gerville Rene Larsen is a 6th generation Crucian, born and raised on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He studied at the St. Croix School of the Arts and has a Degree in Architecture from Cornell University where he was taught by the artist Eleanor Mikus. His creative efforts throughout the years have resulted in various honors and awards in the fields of art and architecture. Gerville is Principal & Owner of TALLER LARJAS, LLC, which houses a fine art gallery, his art studio and his architectural firm here in Christiansted, St. Croix. His works have been selected to represent the USVI in several international art biennials, including Santo Domingo, D.R. and Cuenca, Ecuador. Gerville was also invited to represent the USVI at the 2001 Florence, Italy Biennale d'Arte Contemporanea. One of his works entitled “The Crowning”, which was exhibited in the IV Bienal del Caribe in the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo, is also the image used for the cover of the Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Award First Prize winner entitled “Emersion” by the poet James Whitley.

Gerville's work is both visually and intellectually stimulating. Each of his yearly collections further hones his artistic voice. Gerville believes that Art is a vehicle of personal expression providing insight into the mind of the author. “Within my work, buried in the canvas through pigment and strokes, images are captured typically representing a personal experience that may be positive, negative, exhilarating or frustrating. The interpretation of my work is solely left to the individual's perception which allows each piece to retain its own vivacity in expressing an experience and consequently makes these images continue to live in the mind and psyche of each new viewer it engages"
