Biography
Originally from Switzerland but adopted from Nice for 45 years, Gérard CHAMBETTAZ has been passionate about painting since a very young age. Pupil of Villa Thiole, he did all his classes in Nice where after having tried his hand at oil in his very beginnings, he opted for watercolor, an artistic discipline that he handles wonderfully with the end of his brush. .
Gérard CHAMBETTAZ is not the type to lock himself in a studio, he loves working in the open air and in public. Very sensitive to the atmosphere and the beauty of the place, he particularly likes the nice little corners of the hinterland where he can at leisure blend into the decor and establish communication with the natives of the area. Thus, he participated in many easels in freedom and won various prizes, notably at the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, in Coaraze and in Lantosque. Member of the European Academy of Graphic Arts, a venerable association chaired by Mr. Paul Tomatis, he has the particularity of being a painter from Provence and the Pays Niçois who works on the spot, in a very spontaneous way. He looks for the place, discovers the site, sets up his easel and with a turn of the hand, traces the main lines of his work which he will refine with soft, ocher or pastel hues, in harmony with the place and the characters.< br />
From Mont Boron to Vésubie, from Siagne to Tinée, from Savoie to Mercantour, he weaves his web like others stretch a veil over our heads to better draw us into his pictorial and romantic universe, imbued with freshness and truth where everyone finds themselves over their paintings.

D'origine suisse mais niçois d'adoption depuis 45 ans, Gérard CHAMBETTAZ est passionné par la peinture depuis son plus jeune âge. Élève de la Villa Thiole, il a fait toutes ses classes à Nice où après s'être essayé à l'huile à ses tous débuts, il a opté pour l'aquarelle, discipline artistique qu'il manie à merveille du bout de son pinceau.
Gérard CHAMBETTAZ n'est pas du genre à s'enfermer dans un atelier, il adore travailler à l'air libre et en public. Très sensible à l'atmosphère et à la beauté du lieu, il affectionne particulièrement les petits coins sympas de l'arrière-pays où il peut à loisir se fondre dans le décor et établir une communication avec les autochtones du coin. Ainsi, il a participé à de nombreux chevalets en liberté et remporté différents prix, notamment au Musée Renoir de Cagnes-sur-Mer, à Coaraze et à Lantosque. Membre de l'Académie Européenne des Arts Graphiques, vénérable association présidée par Monsieur Paul Tomatis, il revêt la particularité d'être un peintre de la Provence et du Pays Niçois qui s'exécute sur le vif, d'une manière très spontanée. Il cherche le lieu, découvre le site, dresse son chevalet et d'un tour de main, trace les grandes lignes de son oeuvre qu'il va peaufiner de teintes douces , ocres ou pastel, en harmonie avec le lieu et les personnages.
Du Mont Boron à la Vésubie, de la Siagne à la Tinée, de la Savoie au Mercantour, il tisse sa toile comme d'autres tendent un voile au-dessus de nos têtes pour mieux nous entraîner dans son univers pictural et romanesque, empreint de fraîcheur et de vérité où chacun se retrouve au fil de ses tableaux.
