A rainbow in nature is a rapidly disappearing phenomenon. In the open air, I quickly painted a small sketch from which I wrote a large work in the studio. Powerful heavy rain clouds, a bright rainbow extending into the sky, fields and trees illuminated by the emerging sun are associated with the works of Sergei Rachmaninoff.
