This particular piece is called 'Sailing Home', enjoying the prospect of getting to where the heart is.
I source the frames at auctions, brocantes and estate sales and as is sometimes the case with ships and people, the frames as well have stories to tell - and some of them show parts of their stories. When repair is needed, I restore the frame to a condition which does justice to both the frame and the painting. All frames are antique, some of them rather heavy.
'Sailing Home' has the following measurements:
without frame:
height: 48 cm
width: 68 cm
depth: 03 cm
with frame:
height: 63 cm
width: 82 cm
depth: 8 cm
With frame, it weighs around 4 kg.

Welcome to Portable Art by Geerie!
It took me a good while to think about what I’d write here. And found out that it’s pretty difficult to write something about myself without sounding awful. Not even sure whether I succeeded but here we are now, you and I, and here’s my go at myself.
When I came into being, on a day in a distant past, I must have been delivered with a profound love of lighthouses, the North Sea and boats. Not surprising as such given the fact that I was born in a little village on the Dutch North Sea shore and had just become a member of a thoroughbred family of seafarers.
What was surprising was that my first appearance on this world and in that village was marked by two interesting facts:Firstly, I was green. Yuck! As in: green colour. According to the family legend, I was covered in absolutely totally disgustingly distortingly green skin. Which was the moment when my grandfather prominently entered the picture: he, again according to family legend, recognized the green colour as a skin condition a number of baby’s in the family had sported before me, and he actually knew the cure. He grasped me as soon as he could, ran into the North Sea (needless to say that I was born really really close to the North Sea), dunked me into the salty water and brought me back home. Never had skin issues since. Great action by Grandpa!
For those who are wondering: in those days, in The Netherlands (and still very often today), babies were born at home - come hell or high water. Secondly, my left eye was closed. No idea whether I was really curious and wanted to see at least something without delay or whether I was simply being careful by opening just one eye to quietly explore what lay ahead. Didn’t see the Grandpa-act coming, though!
Does that explain my fierce love for lighthouses, the sea and boats? Yes! And that is what I am trying to depict. My memories of the moments I spent in that village on the North Sea shore in The Netherlands. They all come with a little story. And a ‘piece of art’ I created around that memory
Sourcing the frames is a chapter in itself as it’s quite an adventure. I source the frames at auctions, brocantes and estate sales. As is the case with ships and people, the frames as well have stories to tell - and some of them show parts of their stories. When repair is needed, I restore the frame to a condition which does justice to both the frame and the painting. All frames are antique, some of them rather heavy.
Some of my work and designs are still in various phases of prototype-stage, such as some of the jewelry which inspired the Portable Art by Geerie idea. Your comments are welcome and the contact button is always there for you if you wish more info or are interested in one or the other little oeuvre.
I hope you enjoy Portable Art by Geerie! Have a lovely day!
