Né en 1965 dans une famille protestante du Vivarais, j’ai passé mon enfance à Tournon en Ardèche. Après un Bac C, j’ai entrepris des études supérieures de Lettres à Lyon, puis à Paris.
Ancien élève de l’Ecole Normale Supérieure, agrégé d’espagnol, auteur d’une thèse intitulée : Figures de la bibliothèque dans l’imaginaire espagnol du siècle d’Or (publiée aux éditions Champion en 1999), je suis Professeur de Littérature générale et comparée à l'Université Lyon 2. Je suis également traducteur (Miró, Neruda, Gil Polo, Ortega y Gasset, Ribeyro, Valle-Inclán...).
Le photocollage, activité à laquelle je me livrais jadis de loin en loin, occupe désormais une place majeure dans mon existence – salutaire contrepoint à mes activités universitaires...
