I made this painting in October 2019. This is a small, sturdy canvas that weights little. Currently it is residing in a storage space of mine in between a few other finished (and not so finished) pieces. When they are away from the main splatter-zone, these images are more safe, I feel. I made this painting in October 2019. This is a small, sturdy canvas that weights little. Currently it is residing in a storage space of mine in between a few other finished (and not so finished) pieces. When they are away from the main splatter-zone, these images are more safe, I feel. I originally found the canvas that I worked on while browsing at a thrift store with my big brother. On it was printed a ghastly image of mass-marketed owls that I found horrendous. The canvas was in great shape and cheap, so SOLD. I took it home to my studio, determined to turn it into something that I wouldn't hate to look at. While making this I was using acrylic to create an abstract. A limited color pallet, here was was thinking more about the balance of the work and how the hues flowed next to one another.

Oberlin has always been an artist, developing a love for fountain pens at an early age and deciding to train both hands to draw. They had heard adults talk about a spooky thing called ‘arthritis’. The artist is now ambidextrous.

Oberlin began having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy during their freshman year of college. Art helped tremendously.

Some of Oberlin’s paintings come from sketches. Some of the paintings are scenes and shapes that mutate from color. The commonality is expression. The sketches themselves come from dreams and conversations. Some of these ideas have ruminated for months or years. Others happened in a flash.

Any of the art that you see may have since been painted over, traded, donated, given away, eaten, burned, buried or destroyed.
