Samuel Dougados is an artist specializing in beach art, a type of graffiti created on beaches during low tide. This work is dual in nature, as he photographs beach art. By incorporating various aspects of photography, he creates a distinct atmosphere and a more poetic reading of the piece.
He creates large frescoes on the beach using the unique tool of a rake at low tide. This discipline, which is comparable to street art in terms of its impulsive, gratuitous nature and appropriation of common space, enables him to express himself in a way that no other medium can. He has no frame, no bounds, except those imposed by the rising tide.
Samuel Dougados was born in 1976 and is a self-taught artist. He currently resides in Biarritz, France's southwest region. His work is held in a number of public and private collections, including the Institut Culturel Bernard Magrez in Bordeaux, as well as by a number of private collectors. He has taken part in numerous exhibitions and received numerous awards. In 2011, he has crowned the first world champion of beach art in Jersey.
