Dementra – is a young Russian artist. She graduated from Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry in 2020. Dementra`s artworks fall under both the traditional category of fine arts (easel paintings) and the applied arts (glass art).

In all forms of artistic expression, the author can capture a unique spirit and energy. Quite often in her art, Dementra employs abstract natural motives. The artist herself notes, that to express the energetic matter of nature is crucial for her. After her graduation, Dementra devoted herself to the theme of metaphysics of human existence. Her large-format abstract acrylic paintings (“Projections of the previous,” “Ether,” “Meridian”) express this cosmic energy, that is unfathomable for the human eye, although its movement and a special pulsation are inextricably linked to natural and human life. This invisible, but mighty cosmic power is expressed through her artworks. The artist`s pseudonym is connected to this spiritual and energetic theme, that is being explored by her. Dementra – is a combination of the names of two deities: the goddess of harvest Demeter and the god of sun Ra. With this carefully chosen pseudonym, Dementra emphasizes the idea of artistic creation. By bringing deities from two different pantheons – Greek and Egyptian – together the artist makes a point about the nature of the overarching and universal cosmic energy, which is a leitmotif for her art.

Dementra continues to explore similar ideas in the applied arts. The artist is interested in the expression of natural motifs with glass art. This theme is expressed in her large-scale piece – lamp “Waterfall” which consists out of contrasting floral motifs made from glass. The wise choice of material permits the artist to express the fragility and the beauty of the organic form. The ability of glass to refract and spread light is especially interesting in this context. 

Figurative art is an important part of Dementra`s works. She created a series of canvases that includes both portraits and landscape motifs. The pieces are connected not only through the predominant swampy ocher color but also through the singularity of the mood, that prevails in all of them. The author`s female figures are quite distinctive. Their essence truly unfolds in combination with the semi-abstract landscape paintings.
