this is the story of a little woman, breaking away from an unhappy, desperate association. each of the bodies tells the story of her fragmented states of mind, trying to find a way out from the violence she had been exposed to, depicted by utter darkness, finally breaking away, falling, surrendering, nourishing and giving birth to herself, reconstructing, abstracting and finding her other-self.
this collection is dedicated to all the women who are/have been taken for granted.
it is dedicated to all the women sharing the dream of “dissociation”.

part 1 : the chaos

dissociation 2

“madness is too glamorous a term to convey what happens to most people who are losing their minds. that word is too exciting, too literary, too interesting in its connotations, to convey the boredom, the slowness, the dreariness, the dampness of depression…depression is pure dullness, tedium straight up. depression is, especially these days, an overused term to be sure, but never one associated with anything wild, anything about dancing all night with a lampshade on your head and then going home and killing yourself…the word madness allows its users to celebrate the pain of its sufferers, to forget that underneath all the acting-out and quests for fabulousness and fine poetry, there is a person in huge amounts of dull, ugly agony…remember that when you’re at the point at which you’re doing something as desperate and violent as sticking your head in an oven, it is only because the life that preceded this act felt even worse. think about living in depression from moment to moment, and know it is not worth any of the great art that comes as its by-product.”

Deniz Sak is a Multidisciplinary Artist, Designer and Storyteller from İstanbul, Turkey.

She took part in several exhibitions as an artist and a designer, including MAXXI Rome, Triennale di Milano, Fabbrica del Vapore and Milano Design Week ‘12 and ‘13, Ionion Aquarium and Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture, both solo and in groups.

Her had been practicing art over 10 years, in various mediums; Video Art, Short Film, Photography, Mixed Media, Painting and Illustration.

FLUX, her recent Video Art & Short Films collection, is an ongoing research on constant change and balance, through the narrative of elements.

FLUX: Water (2022), the first chapter, a series of Video Art works, aims to point out the continuous loop of moving inward and outward, washing away the duality of "inside" and "outside", encouraging to find a common ground to be the observer and the observee concurrently.

FLUX: On The Road (2023), her latest Short Film project, a story of Attachment and Detachment, a continuous loop of encounters beyond timelines and lifespans; and the demolition of the duality of being “me” and “you”: There is only being part of a whole. Being one.

She had been traveling, filming and engaging with people on the road, from different cultures and landscapes, listening to their stories and studying mainly two concepts: Attachment & Detachment and Change & Balance.
