Original artwork can be any type of painting, sculpture, performance, or other media. There are many types of original media. Mixed media includes oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings. For workshop paintings that bear evidence of master craftsmanship, this attribution must be further qualified. While they may be less valuable for different reasons, reproductions and copies have had a tremendous impact on our experience. They reach a greater audience than originals and act as a tonic against commodification. Original Artwork could also refer to the first work, which is always preceding all others. It could also refer to a prototype or a model from which other works can be made. Each work bears great similarities to the original.

One of a series of acrylic paintings, incorporating sand and gravel for texture, and effect, and numbered Night Fishing in Ugljan Nos 1- 38. These acrylic pictures arose out of an episode in the Adriatic off the coast of Croatia, in 2017, when I went out at night in a small fishing boat and watched the fisherman attract the fish to the surface using bright lights, in a tradition going back to Roman times. Then they used braziers. Today they use halogen lamps and car batteries. These pictures are abstractions of the view looking into the water as the fish approach the surface. They are complex and multilayered images, whose effect is to promote a certain calming, restorative and reflective atmosphere. They refresh the eye on each occasion that we return to them, for we never seem to see the same detail twice. Suitable for large unobstructed interiors and board rooms and business receptions. 2" wide protective box frames are included free of charge, for protection during transit, and can be retained or exchanged for another more suited to your decor. The paintings come signed and dated on the reverse, with attached D rings for hanging purposes.

I am the grandson of the writer Mary Butts and of modernist publisher John Rodker. My god father was Nicholas Pevsner. I am the author of Walking to Jerusalem - On Hidden Hebrew and The Origin of Words, which shows that the alphabetic languages of Europe are dialects of the Hebrew of antiquity. I attended Cardiff College of Art (now part of the University of Wales) and was later an art college lecturer for a decade, before leaving education to open a studio. Early influences included John Piper and Frances Bacon (of course). Recent exhibitions include The Babylon Gallery, Ely, Highgate Contemporary Art and Highgate Scientific and Literary Institute. I have been painting from as far back as I can recall. Do I have anything meaningful to say about art? Not really, other than to say that the act of painting is a kind of witness to the moment, that you were here, now, and that you reflected and that you left a mark. As such a painting commemorates a place and a time, but I am unable to anticipate how a painting will emerge from the creative process. It is of course a conversation with oneself as one progresses, and one which reaches a conclusion when the relevant aesthetic bases, in terms of line, colour and tone have been reached. I use whatever reference comes to hand in the real world to create surfaces which I hope are atmospheric, evocative and arresting in my imaginative one.
