Contemporary art is increasingly popular and prints have performed strongly in the international art market in recent years. Art market trends show strong demand as art collectors realise that original prints are a way to aquire valuable works of graphic art, modern and contemporary works are very popular.
People buy art because the subject matter and the style appeals to them. Many collect the work of a particular artist whose art they enjoy, and which they believe to be an investment. Art lovers who collect for aesthetic and investment reasons, must be aware of the difference between a reproduction and an original print.
An original print can be produced by stone lithography, serigraphy (silk-screen printing), etching, giclee, or wood block. It must have been conceived by the artist to be intended as a print. In order to be an original print, the artist must have produced the matrix. This means that the artist drew on the stone for a stone lithograph, or created the stencils on the screen for a serigraph. The matrix for a digital artist is electronic, to be printed by the giclee process. This is within the context of traditional printmaking, and truly a fine-art. With original prints the smaller the edition the higher their value, which can increase dramatically in a relatively short period of time.
A reproduction is a copy of a work in another medium, for example a painting, drawing or map. The artwork is photographed, processed, then reproduced by mechanical offset printing machines. The image is comprised of tiny dots of color, which can be seen on closer inspection. Reproductions printed by the digital giclee process have a smooth continuous gradation of color, giving a superior and more faithful copy of the original artwork. Whether the print is open edition or limited edition, it is only a reproduction even if of very high quality. They are generally referred to as fine-art prints, and sometimes more correctly as posters.
As a professional artist my philosophy is to provide archival grade conservation quality original prints, that will endure beyond a lifetime to be enjoyed by future generations, and provide investment quality art.
An original print is a work of graphic art which has been conceived by the artist to be intended as an original work of art, rather than a copy of a work in another medium. The work of a digital painter is by its nature intended to be physically created by the giclee printing process, for the purpose of presentation, exhibition, and selling.
Many collectors will prefer the uniqueness associated with traditional paintings, which will always command higher prices. However, digital painting is a very highly skilled and permanent cultural movement in fine-art, and many traditional artists have embraced the creatively versatile technology.
Prints created by contemporary digital artists are original prints, as defined by the International Fine Print Dealers Association:
"The distinction as to whether a digital print is an "original print" is determined by whether the work was created by the artist to be realised specifically as a print."
My digital paintings are in permanent exhibits at:

Hello and welcome to my portfolio, hosted by ArtMajeur.
As an independent and self-representing artist, my philosophy is to provide archival grade conservation quality paintings and original prints, which will endure beyond a lifetime to be enjoyed by future generations, and provide investment quality art. This is a positive and beneficial ethic amidst a seemingly throw-away culture, wouldn’t you agree?
My eclectic style and artistic vision is a combination of the automotive subject matter, the digital painting medium, and a blending of draughtsmanship and painting technique. Proficiency in technical drawing and painting is the foundation of my style. When drawing or painting I infuse elements of design to visualise a perspective that creates asymmetry and visual opposition in the composition, to attain a dynamic balance in the whole image. A unique visual style is created by using Gestalt op-art techniques and minimal detail resulting in perception challenging works of art that are both technical, and creative.
I was born in London E13 in 1954, and started drawing at a very young age, having a natural talent for art. As my ability progressed I developed a skill for technical detail. Proficiency in technical drawing and painting is the foundation of my style. During the early seventies I studied graphic art to diploma level, then in 1974 embarked upon my main ambition to work as a professional artist. From this time I worked on portrait commissions, and my first venture into publishing fine-art prints was in the mid seventies. Collecting works of graphic art, of a good quality, is an excellent opportunity for art lovers and art collectors to have the enjoyment of owning an artist's work. My passion for the automobile began in the late sixties.
