The artist used two elements of ancient Mexican cultures: amate paper and cochineal grana.
Amate paper is a type of handmade vegetable paper. In ancient times it was used as a support for Mesoamerican codices.
Cochineal grana is a natural dye and is especially used to dye traditional Oaxaca textiles.
