Hope Boat The inspiration and themes of my paintings have their roots in the social-political area of the events we live in and I try to illustrate these as much as I can. The theme chosen in this work is related to a moment in our recent history, namely the tragedy of Syrian refugees in their attempt to find shelter in Europe. They walked and sailed with improvised boats distances of thousands of kilometers hoping to find a prosperous place to live in peace. For them, "The Promised Land" was called Germany, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, etc. For me, the shocking image that showed the Syrian refugees drama was that of the body of a child named Aylan found on the Turkish shores of the Mediterranean in an attempt to reach in an inflatable boat the island of Kos. Many of us (Europeans) are traumatized when we lose our jobs, or when we get no Internet. Here we have people who have lost everything and are trying to find shelter away from their home. The year 2015 was one that many of us will probably forget easily with time, and this work does nothing but keep those events alive in a visual form. "Hope Boat" is a visually accessible work, being realistically treated and allowing the viewer to discover the elements that make up the composition.
