Bogdan Pilatowicz, born in Warsaw, has been living in Austria since 1981. As a visual artist he follows a very individual path. He has always lived for and from art. First as a musician (Folk, Latin, Jazz) he produced four CD's in Austria and then as a painter since 1995 he offers a very extensive program - from paintings, drawings and cartoons to murals and digital art. He sees himself as a painter barrier-free and curious. An artist who chooses his subjects out of pure pleasure in painting and consistently realizes them. He draws no boundaries between styles and materials, combines them, creates innovations and embarks on intensive journeys of thought to sharpen his expressiveness. His versatility, coupled with his wealth of experience, makes him unique.
Although his interests in painting are very diverse, he always likes to return to the surreal. He loves the languages of the surrealists and their aesthetics, but lives out his own style. 2000-2005, after many years of involvement with figurative and surreal painting, he found his way to abstract painting. This way of painting opened up a whole new range of possibilities for him. He varies in the execution and experiments with different materials. Pilatowicz finds the connection between the abstract and the figurative very exciting. The fantasy of abstraction is limited by the surreal elements and thus a signpost is formed for the viewer. This makes these works a playful challenge.
