"I want my colors and shapes to be free and in movement. Let them merge, part, fight or unite, but let them stay free"
There goes Bodson's artistic philosophy. His unique touch could be affiliated to the post-war modernist "lyrical abstraction" movement. De Staël, Riopelle, Poliakoff, Hartung, Mathieu, Soulages were a few among the artists representing that trend. It is still alive and kicking in Bodson's work.

Bodson is a french painter born in a small town in Belgium, at the dawn of WW II. He joined the creative world after studying literature and philosophy, to become one of the pioneers of modern times advertising, designing award-winning campains for international customers, in the north of Europe, then in Paris.

He found his true creative calling when he settled in Picardie and start a second life as a painter, not far from Auvers-sur- Oise, at the beginning of the 90's.

Bodson was soon invited to display his early figurative works in local townhouses and exhibition rooms. His lines and strokes were already revealing an urge to break free from the constraints that he felt were hindering his creativity. Although his initial paintings were positively received by the public, Bodson stayed dissatisfied with the formality of his shapes.

Then came the creative epiphany. Whilst he was pacing the Halatte forest trails on an early spring day, he started to mentally picture a whole new world of abstract forms and colors, swirling and twisting and escaping and coming back to picture the fundamental forces that he had been trying to express. He then locked himself up in his workshop and gave way to a creative frenzy that led to the production of some of his most remarkable canvases.

Bodson then started to hit the road, sharing his works with ever more enthusiastic aficionados. This journey took him to Clermont, then Chantilly, Honfleur and finally Montpellier in the south of France.

Going down south made him realize that he was missing the golden light of the Mediterranean to illuminate his compositions. He decided to settle on the Costa Blanca and moved his workshop by the sea...together with a good hundred canvases, his beloved wife and partner in crime, a few books and jazz records, and a grumpy cat.

Bodson's work was soon noticed by the Mayor of Benissa, also in charge of culture for the Deputation of Alicante, who encouraged him to exhibit a selection of his paintings at the "Aula del Mar" in 2015.

His latest canvases can now be seen at the Art Gallery of Altea, or on appointment, at his studio overlooking the Marina Alta Hills.
