Gérard Basiletti was born in Burgundy-Free County (France) in 1947. In 1969 he took courses at the Famous Artists School. The same year he met Salvador Dali for whom Gérard has the greatest admiration and his paintings are undoubtedly inspired by it. He died at 60 years old at the end of an artistic career from which were born over 2000 paintings.

Also a sculptor, two of his creations are visible in Montécheroux (in the center of the village) and Dijon (courtyard of the Hôtel de Frasans). To pay tribute to his work, the city of Fontaine-lès-Dijon gave the artist's name to the main room of the gallery La Source.
