This picture is inspired on a photograph made by Newyork Classical Review. The reason I have portrayed him is that I want to express my deep appreciation for him and for what he has achieved.

Out of a great fascination for human expression, I make portraits in which the viewer has to stop and think. The models look at you with a special look, which ask for further acquaintance and further rapprochement. Not the fact that the works are worked out quite photographically, but the emphasis on the eyes and the further face. The clothing is already much less important and does not require the sharpness that the eyes require. As human beings, we are extremely capable of reading another person's mood in the face, body posture and overall expression. That's much more for me to do.
Teachers are almost self-evident Rembrandt, Velazquez, Caravaggio and their contemporaries.
More contemporary there are portrait painters who really know how to capture the light. That's what I'm looking for!

Bart Van Zweeden is a contemporary Dutch artist. His work shows several directions: a predominant experimental direction with a preference for structure, tone and limited use of color. The trigger is the processes of life, sometimes current events or ordinary everyday things.

The artist likes to experiment with different techniques and he likes to work in series; a theme or a certain way of expression then forms the common thread. This creates a series of works on paper and series in which screen printing has been experimented with. Also a series with larger work on canvas in which the image should convey a more monumental impression to the viewer.

Bart Van Zweeden was born in 1958, in the Netherlands. He exhibited his works nationally.
