Spectrum Gallery & Artisan Store "Follow The Line" Exhibition Comments

The Line, a building block of all forms of art is the subject of the first exhibition in 2017 at the Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook. Herringbone and Hearts Pearl Earrings, Aqua Blue Druzy Quartz Pendant Enhancer Necklace, and Lasting Beauty Rosette Necklace, are just a few of the many creations you will find in the galleries artisan store by jewelry artist Gloria Nilsson. A selection of Gloria’s hand painted silk scarves, created using sun printing and her Floral Burst techniques, are also available in the store. The show, from January 20 through March 5, explores movement from one point to the other, or as painter Paul Klee once said in describing the line as “a dot that went for a walk”. Included are drawings, photographs, representational and abstract paintings, mixed media and sculpture. Held at Spectrum Gallery and Store, 61 Main St., Centerbrook, CT. These jewelry pieces and the 100% silk scarf are available exclusively through Spectrum Gallery throughout the duration of this exhibit.

The Great Connecticut Caper a Success! Comments

Great Connecticut Caper a Success

Article by

http://www.zip06.com/news/20150702/great-connecticut-caper-a-success

Gloria Nilsson of Killingworth was one of 12 authors and illustrators recently chosen to write and illustrate The Great Connecticut Caper, an online mystery for young readers sponsored by Connecticut Humanities, Connecticut Center for the Book. Authors and illustrators were given one week to write and illustrate their chapter. Nilsson created her illustration on silk.

In the mystery story, Gillette Castle has vanished from East Haddam. Thomas and Li-Ming put their detective skills to work trying to solve this magical mystery. A new chapter of the book was published every other week, culminating in a celebration at Gillette Castle with more than 100 Caper followers from all over the state. Nilsson entertained close to 50 children of many ages who came to try their hand at illustrating. Some created their own original illustrations on artist trading cards while others used their talents to color in a piece of the puzzle ATC for chapter 11’s Spell Check. Throughout the Caper chapter releases online, Connecticut Humanities ran some contests for children to participate in. The Guilford Library won a Caper contest; the prize was an illustration workshop run by Nilsson https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153420705479907.1073741867.193567139906&type=3 on June 22 at the library.
