About the Gallery

Art Café Aino is located at the basement of Asuntohotelli/Hostel Aallon Maja, Sunila (Kotka), Finland. The house is called Aallon Maja because it is designed by Alvar Aalto, the most famous architect in Finland ever. In the same building there are also Galleria Merilä and Russian Art Center in Kotka - about 1.000 artworks for sale!

The building has been a loundry and sauna house for employees of Sunila Oy - the pulp mill. Also the factory buildings and the residental area of Sunila is designed by Alvar Aalto's office. It is the most important industrial area of Aalto's architecture.

Aallon Maja has been empty for nearly ten years. On the year 2003 the new owner Ilkka Porkka started again the hotel business and opened the art café, too. Now there is a hostel for 40 - 50 persons.

Opening Hours

Art Café Aino is open on working days from Monday to Friday from 8.00 AM to 16.00 PM and allways when someone is there. We will serve our hotel quests very early in the morning and very late in the evening, so do not hesitate to ask for visits! For big groups and families we do open our café and show rooms when ever you ask for it! Wellcome!

Call for entries (Artists)

The gallery accepts applications from artists. Conditions for Artists's applications: We are now developing this site and shopping cart. Because we have hundreds of paintings and graphics from tens on artist, it will take some months to get the volume of artworks to so high level, that we start taking pictures also from new artist. But, why not ask?!
