______________________

Self-taught artist, born in Menton in the Provençale region, from parents whose culture is at the antipodes of each other: a German mother, RUTH TENER and an Algerian father, of Berber origin, ALI BERKANE. This Arab origin has certainly influenced a certain thematic orientation of my (Orientalist) paintings.

At a very young age, drawing immediately fascinated me, then, more recently, watercolor painting. This taste for art could only see the light of day following a professional reorientation. Indeed, 17 years of professional activity in masonry did not allow me to exploit this path. The integration of a Painter / Interior Decorator training at the School of Applied Arts ARTDEC in Nice corresponds more to my aspirations and is planned for October 2005.

After experimenting with charcoal, sanguine and dry pastel, I chose watercolor for its transparency and spontaneity. If orientalist painting where light and bright colors mix, is very prominent in my work, I am particularly seduced by the Artistic Nude where the woman holds a place of honor. Indeed, the Female Nude is my source of inspiration and favorite.

These two themes are opposed by certain aspects and yet are omnipresent in my work: on the one hand the woman, draped in mystery, veiled, unveiled, where the body is dressed in surprising shapes and lights. it is a symbol of sweetness, sensuality and nudity. On the other hand, male characters evolving in a dry, arid and harsh country. Indeed, Orientalism, in my painting, is mainly defined by landscaped scenes of desert, streets, architecture and male characters (Berber, hunter, rider).

My first exhibition of Orientalist works will take place from September 17, 2005 at the village of Antiquaries in Isle sur Sorgue. Another exhibition (orientalist and female nude themes) begins in Menton from February 4, 2006.
