Hank Douglas was much more than a photographer, he was an artist who left an indelible mark on the world of visual art. Born in 1948, Hank dedicated his life to capturing the true essence of Washington, DC, his hometown. As a prominent member of the Kindalew Collective, his contributions were invaluable. His eye for urban aesthetics and his talent for capturing fleeting moments in his photographs was truly remarkable.

In addition to his photographic exploits, Hank was a valued mentor and friend. His love for Washington was contagious, and he happily shared his encyclopedic knowledge of the city with colleagues and friends. His sudden passing on July 4, 2017 left a huge void in the artistic community, but his legacy lives on through his works.

Through his striking black and white and color photographs, Hank has captured the very essence of Washington. His images revealed not only the beauty of the city, but also its history, its diversity and its dynamism. Each shot was imbued with his passion for his subject and his deep respect for the light that illuminated each scene.
