Sculptor, painter, graphic artist, illustrator and portraitist, graduated in Modern Literature, he was born in Palermo on 2 August 1952. He has always been an art lover, and since he was very young he dedicated himself to experimenting and refining the difficult technique of drawing.
He began painting at the age of 22, that is, when he felt ready to face the many difficulties that arise in front of those who for the first time are preparing, as self-taught, to pick up brushes and colors. The desire to paint arises in him from a deep and intimate need to make tactile and visible the images that, arising from his inner world, are forged overwhelmingly in his mind.
In 1986, in the premises of the Circolo della Stampa of Palermo, he set up his first personal exhibition, inaugurated by the Mayor Leoluca Orlando, which received an enormous consensus from the public as well as from critics. Since then it has been a continuous succession of participations in Collective Exhibitions and National and International Competitions, in which, as a good practicing sportsman, he manages to instill his competitive spirit and his love for comparison and competition, obtaining more than flattering results.
After having experimented with various painting techniques, from china to soft pastels, from watercolor to tempera, from acrylic to oil, he chose, as the most congenial technique to his creative spirit, oil painting on canvas or on wood, with particular predilection for the 70 x 80 format. From 1983 to today he has also produced an interesting series of lithographs, serigraphs and drawings in Indian ink and sanguine.
Always looking for new experiences in the artistic field, he gladly accepted the invitation addressed to him by Prof. Sheyla Mc Intire and Agostina Ferrara, to collaborate, for the graphic part, in the creation of an English Grammar text entitled "Learning English Together ". And this is how in a month of work he produced all the illustrative drawings of the book, as well as the cover, which turned out to be truly original. Shortly after its publication, by the ANVIED publishing house, the text was adopted at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Palermo.
In November 1998 the Artist, to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary with Art, sets up a personal anthological exhibition in the prestigious Gallery inserted in the splendid and fascinating gardens of Villa Niscemi, for the occasion made available by the Municipality of Palermo.
In 2008 he ventured into the difficult art of sculpture and discovered that he had innate gifts that allowed him to create some valuable works.
Tony Alonzo, whose works now appear in numerous private collections both in Italy and abroad, is today looking for new and increasingly satisfying experiences in the artistic field, as if to satisfy an inexhaustible desire to continually confront himself.
