Original Artwork refers to any work that is considered authentic and not a copy or imitation of the original works of an artist. Original artwork can be any type of painting, sculpture, performance, or other media. There are many types of original media. Mixed media includes oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings. For workshop paintings that bear evidence of master craftsmanship, this attribution must be further qualified. While they may be less valuable for different reasons, reproductions and copies have had a tremendous impact on our experience. They reach a greater audience than originals and act as a tonic against commodification. Original Artwork could also refer to the first work, which is always preceding all others. It could also refer to a prototype or a model from which other works can be made. Each work bears great similarities to the original.

Technique mixte sur toile -

Au début d’un rituel de guérison, la personne-médecine s’assied sur le sol de son tipi, et au son du tambour tombe graduellement en transe. Ainsi commence son voyage cosmique.
La personne-médecine est celle qui a reçu le don de voir et d’entendre les esprits. Elle devient Chaman et détient alors son pouvoir de l’ours, de la libellule, de l’aigle ou d’un arbre. Ce n’est pas l’animal physique qui transmet ce pouvoir mais bien son esprit.
Au centre de la toile, on voit une Grenouille, symbole des profondeurs où le Chaman plonge pendant son voyage. Autour le Lézard et le Serpent, ses esprits auxiliaires, le protègent, l’informent des dangers et communiquent avec les autres esprits rencontrés.
Ils symbolisent la connexion avec l’univers. Le Chaman en transe vole sous l’aspect d’un aigle pour avoir des visions avec les esprits des trois mondes et obtenir d’eux la guérison d’un malade. On distingue le monde supérieur où règne le Grand Manitou. Il est représenté par le Soleil, la Lune et les Astres. Au milieu, le monde intermédiaire où vivent ses habitants, le brave, la femme, les enfants et les animaux. En bas dans le monde inférieur, le royaume des ombres est la demeure des âmes et des morts.
Le malade jeûnera pour recevoir une vision. Son corps, son cœur et son esprit purifiés, il se présentera devant le Grand Manitou et si celui-ci juge le malade digne, il recevra la guérison.

Jean-Luc OSSWALD was born in Strasbourg, in 1950. He lives and works in the suburbs of Paris. Very early, he felt the need to express himself through drawing and painting.
Encouraged by his Art professor and supported by his family, he takes off on an artistic path in Paris. He is accepted at the competitive entrance examination of the Collège Art et Dessin and later at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art. After graduating, he goes to Canada where he does some traveling. Upon his return to France, in 1972, he starts working for Draeger, an art editing publisher. He works on books about famous artists such as: Braque, Chagall, Dali, Fuchs, Magritte, Picasso...
Illustrator, chief of the art studio, artistic director, he works passionately, for nearly 30 years, as a graphic designer in advertising, a world dedicated to the cult of image and sign. His creativity leads him to experiment with digital imaging and editing while heading a team of graphic designers.
In 1999, he feels the need to widen his creative field and turns naturally to painting. Since the beginning of this adventure, he exhibits in numerous art galleries in France and abroad. His pictural work has received several awards.
He became a member of the Taylor Foundation in Paris in 2003 and in January 2005, he signs the manifest Un art pour l’Homme.
He teaches painting at a Plastic Arts Studio.
A permanent exhibition of his work can be seen in a Parisian area Art Gallery.
Today he is in search of his work’s echo... in France and abroad.
