Nesta aguarela represento um dos momentos da extracção de cortiça de um sobreiro, que existem sobretudo no sul de Portugal numa região chamada Alentejo.
O meu país, Portugal, é o principal produtor mundial de cortiça. É responsável por mais de 60% do volume das exportações mundiais, tendo uma área de sobreiro correspondente a 25% da existente no mundo inteiro. Se um dia viajar pelo meu país, sobretudo no Alentejo, não deixe de reparar na paisagem e vai se aperceber de que sobreiro é uma das árvores mais comuns.
“Mais ecológico não há. Natural e macia, mantém o fresco e também o quente, quando é preciso, e é usada para tornar o ambiente confortável e acolhedor. A cortiça é um dos produtos naturais mais característicos de Portugal e faz parte do quotidiano sem darmos por isso.”
A cortiça é um produto natural, bastante versátil e do qual se fazem coisas, que muitas vezes você nem se apercebe que ele está presente.
“As rolhas das garrafas de vinho são o objecto mais conhecido mas existem muitos artigos em cortiça: acessórios de moda, roupa e sapatos, mobiliário e revestimentos, de chão ou parede, entre outros. A invenção recente do tecido de cortiça veio revolucionar esta indústria e colocar em evidência as suas propriedades tão apreciadas: é resistente, versátil, reciclável, hipoalergénico e tem qualidades térmicas e acústicas. Para além disso, tem um processo de transformação muito simples para poder ser trabalhado.”
Esta aguarela é então um merecido tributo aos homens que fazem a extracção da cortiça, os homens da cortiça.

In English: In this watercolor I represent one of the moments of the extraction of cork from a cork oak, which exists mainly in the south of Portugal in a region called Alentejo.
