A landscape of the soul, Hongyu Zhang summons the ideas of movement, rhythm and energy. His work condenses the mixed and confused feelings arising from his encounters between Inner Mongolia and Europe and thus takes us inside beings.
His artistic vocabulary is therefore a symbiosis between the techniques of his Eastern predecessors and Western art, in particular German expressionism. In his paintings, calligraphy, engraving, Indian ink and charcoal interact with acrylic, oil and pastels on supports placed flat on the ground. It is in music that the artist creates the lines. The chosen music accompanies the painter's outline which makes him run and dance on the canvas. Each trait has its own existence and symbolizes strength. The expression, for its part, is of Western inspiration and we can clearly feel the influence of engraving on the paintings. Each work by Hongyu Zhang is a journey, the expression of a world in itself.
With a great economy of colors, the artist's line and brushstrokes travel like a dance and compose an energetic space, bringing those who look at the work into their own search for energy.
