Embora não tenha nascido em Lisboa, este excelente aguarelista pintou cantos e recantos da capital de Portugal com muita paixão. Com as suas belas e luminosas aguarelas, Roque Gameiro transmite-nos essa paixão, o seu deleite pelas coisas simples do quotidiano da Lisboa antiga. E é assim que ele nos convida para um passeio pela Lisboa do final do século XIX e das primeiras décadas do século XX. Esta pintura é minha primeira homenagem a Roque Gameiro.

Note:This painting is a tribute to Alfredo Roque Gameiro, a Portuguese painter who lived between 1864-1935. Although not born in Lisbon, this excellent watercolour painter was painting nooks and crannies of Portugal's capital with much passion. With their beautiful and luminous watercolors Roque Gameiro convey us that passion, his treat by the simple things of quotidian of ancient Lisbon. And it is in this way that he invites us for a tour by Lisbon from the late nineteenth and the first decades of the twentieth century. This painting is my first tribute to Roque Gameiro.

Watercolor

Watercolor is a painting in which gum arabic binds transparent pigments revealing the support of the painting. The gouache, of identical composition, is opaque. A watercolor is a water-based painting on paper. We rarely speak of a painting for a work painted in watercolor. Watercolor paintings are considered to be a unique way to creatively represent dreams, illusions, emotions and luminous feelings using water soluble pigments. However, painting with watercolors can be difficult. It's a difficult medium to master, in large part because it can be ruthless and unpredictable. Mistakes are difficult to correct and its fluid nature makes it difficult to control. Yet it is these very qualities that give the medium its undeniable charm.
