Alguma história (Some Monchique's history):
Este belo recanto localiza-se na pequena e bela vila de Monchique, Algarve. Situada no distrito de Faro (Algarve) entre duas grandes serras, a Foia e a Picota, esta bela vila tem cerca de 2 300 habitantes, segundo o Anuário Estatístico da Região do Algarve (2012).
Monchique entra na história com a presença dos romanos, atraídos pelo poder curativo das águas medicinais das Caldas de Monchique. Por consequência, os “romanos procederam à construção de um edifício termal, concedendo assim uma maior monumentalidade e importância a este local, facto atestado, por exemplo, pelo achado de uma ara votiva consagrada às “águas sagradas”. Contudo, não terão sido os romanos os primeiros a reconhecerem as propriedades terapêuticas destas águas …”. This beautiful corner is located in the small and beautiful village of Monchique, Algarve. Located in the district of Faro (Algarve) between two large mountains, Foia and Picota, this beautiful village has about 2 300 inhabitants, according to the Statistical Yearbook of the Algarve Region (2012). Monchique enters in the history with the presence of the Romans, attracted by the curative power of the the Caldas de Monchique’s medicinal waters. Consequently, the Romans proceeded to construct a thermal edifice, thus giving greater monumentality and importance to this place, a fact confirmed, for example, by the finding of a votive altar dedicated to the "sacred waters". However, the Romans weren’t the first to recognize the therapeutic properties of these waters ... ".
