Layma

Layma comes from Riga, the beautiful old capital of Latvia.
She received an initial training as an industrial engineer and then obtained a diploma as a psychologist, with an equivalent university recognition.
She came to Belgium ( 1994 ) to further develop her artistic skills and to strengthen family ties.
She has found her second home here in Belgium.

Exhibitions

2005 Twelve works, Galerie Francis De Nys, Brasschaat / Dec. 11 – 30
2003 International Gallery in Bruges
1998 Art Gallery, Cologne (Germany)
1993 Art Gallery, Potsdam (Germany)

Layma is a water nymph. Born in the Pacific Ocean, raised on the Baltic coasts, where she spent most of her childhood. It is therefore no coincidence that she has now found her 'feeling at home' in West Flanders near the sea.
At a young age she studied art in Riga.
In 1996 she started working in Bruges as a commercial intermediary for LETS in trade with Western Europe.
In 1999 she completed her two-year art education at the Bruges Academy

Layma has great empathy and a rich fantasy world.

She gets her inspiration from her childhood memories in nature (blue skies and oceans) as well as from her inner emotional metamorphoses. She gives shape to this in abstractions, in which she enriches her mystical and dreamy world with creations based on and from Nature, such as animals, the sea, forests, mountains, ecology. Leonardo da Vinci says: “The death of an animal is equivalent to the death of a human being”. Her involvement with animal suffering everywhere has a very deep effect on her. The ecological problem, specifically with the habitat of many animals, is close to her heart. Eg. “The Last Iceberg” shows her deep pain and concern.
The universe, so the space outside the Earth, fed by, among other things. images from Nasa are more than inspiring, fed by the inner depths and the ongoing search for other dimensions.
As a child she was already fascinated by Picasso, Modiglianni, Lautrec, Klimt… and in particular by Marc Chagall.
These impressions, feelings and experiences are then expressed in a rich color palette.
Layma is a passionate and self-confident artist with a passionate appearance. With her powerful, subtle, subtle and self-willed pictoriality and compositional passion, she expresses and radiates her remarkable talent and her strong communicative power.

In 1993 Layma was invited for an exhibition at the Kunsthalle in Berlin.
Recently (Nov. 2015) she received an invitation to exhibit at Esart Galeria for the XVII Salon International 2016 in Barcelona.
