Presenting an artwork by Francesco Ubertini, also known as Bacchiacca (Borgo San Lorenzo, 1494 - Florence, 1557), featuring an elegant lady engaging in a gentle act of affection. In the painting, she is delicately caressing a calm cat with tawny, spotted fur using the index and middle fingers of her right hand. The woman's refined lineage is highlighted by her attire, which includes a grand green dress with wide sleeves and a square neckline, reflecting the fashion of mid-sixteenth-century women. Adorning her neck is a gold necklace, adding an additional touch of nobility.

The cat reciprocates this tenderness by extending its paws onto the woman's left arm, signifying trust and intimacy between the two.

Measuring a mere 26 by 19 centimeters, this artwork is a small tablet that has also sparked allegorical interpretations. However, according to scholar Lada Nikolenko, who extensively studied Bacchiacca and published a comprehensive monograph in 1966, there is no hindrance to perceiving this piece as a simple portrait of a woman with her beloved pet. The proximity and connection between the woman and the cat are further accentuated by the matching colors of their hair and fur, almost as if they identify with each other.

The painting likely belongs to Bacchiacca's mature phase of artistic activity, potentially originating from the 1640s. Currently, it is housed in the Staatliche Museen in Berlin.
