Gustav Klimt is one of the most famous painters of all time.
Gustav Klimt was a symbolist painter who was a prominent member of the Vienna Secession movement. He is best known for his paintings, murals, and sketches. Klimt's primary subject matter was the female body, and many of his works are characterized by their frank eroticism.
Born in 1862 in Vienna, Austria, Klimt grew up in relative poverty. His father was a gold engraver who struggled to make a living. His mother, who had a musical background, dreamed of being a singer. Klimt's two older brothers displayed some artistic talent, and one of them went on to be a gold engraver as well. Despite the adversity of his early life, Klimt exhibited his talent and skill at a young age.
Although Klimt cultivated a naturalistic style for his early work, he was influenced by many different styles and movements. In 1891, he painted a portrait of Emilie Floge, the wife of his brother Ernst. The two became friends and were close. After Klimt's father died in 1891, he began to stray away from this naturalistic style, using symbols and other ideas that were not naturalistic.
Klimt's works often strayed from the traditions of the classical painting tradition. He took inspiration from various sources, including Albrecht Durer engravings, late medieval European paintings, and the Japanese Rimpa school. His mature works began to reject these figural elements, incorporating a wider range of symbolic elements and emphasising freedom from traditional culture.
His paintings are incredibly beautiful and full of life. They’re perfect for anyone who wants to add a touch of luxury to their home.
