It was a real struggle to finish this painting and I almost abandoned it completely today. Instead, I managed to finish it. I realized that I was trying to make Moxie look too much like the photograph instead of how I saw him. Once I realized that, my brush was flying! The camera removes that living element sometimes. It was a real struggle to finish this painting and I almost abandoned it completely today. Instead, I managed to finish it. I realized that I was trying to make Moxie look too much like the photograph instead of how I saw him. Once I realized that, my brush was flying! The camera removes that living element sometimes. Moxie is almost all white, so any shadows are really subtle and he doesn't have any typical budgie patterns. There's lots of laying on his head.

It is painted on illustration board.

The natural world is my main inspiration. Through close observation I seek to understand the world better. Layers, emotion and concepts hold great meaning for me and I strive to include them as much as possible. I primarily use pencil crayons and chalk pastels, but thoroughly enjoyed my Painting 101 class and plan on using acrylics more. Some day I hope to be able to attend ACAD full-time. My favourite artists include Fred Remington, Delacroix, Ralph Steadman, El Greco and Tom Thomson. I currently reside in Alberta with my husband.

I attend the Alberta College of Art & Design on a continuing education basis. In about three years time I will complete all ten classes required for first year studies. After that, I hope to be able to attend full or part time.
