The house is called Aallon Maja because it is designed by Alvar Aalto, the most famous architect in Finland ever. The building has been a loundry and sauna house for employees of Sunila Oy - the pulp mill. Also the factory buildings and the residental area of Sunila is designed by Alvar Aalto's office. It is the most important industrial area of Aalto's architecture.

Aallon Maja has been empty for nearly ten years. On the year 2003 the new owner Ilkka Porkka started again the hotel business and opened the art café, too. Now there is a hostel for 40 - 50 persons.

You will find more information about Aallon Maja on its home page.
