reflexion about painting

For me,
the paint must remain primarily an adventure.
It is not locked into a straitjacket, an image of trade, a sign, a neon.
If the style (but I prefer to fingerprint, so to be) the artist remains, it is essential to travel in his art and explore new sensations, new sites of expression, new themes, even if sometimes to doubt, not to believe in what we do, to say "it's crap! .
We must remain humble and at the same time dare all and only the future (hopefully very near, for not dreaming, the artist is also a practical man, an entrepreneur, a businessman, a merchant carpets ...) tell us through the eyes of others if our work is able to touch, question, vibrating or cry foul!.
The paint must be ten thousand places "of beauty, which pleases the eye and mind, which does not disrupt the minds or habits." And even if it leaves us hungry, a taste of bitterness, not success, failed artist.
We must always ask:
I paint for that? I paint for what?

Francis DENIS announces the color

“When I remain without painting, I have the impression not to exist more…” Francis DENIS with the painting so narrowly screwed with his daily newspaper that it sometimes happens to him to work “until breathlessness. ” Very productive, it sticks to series and exhausts them. There were the bathers, the lunches on grass, the painter and his model. It stops today on Christ and maternities. Travel colors. Francis DENIS hangs his works from Dunkirk in Paris, from Ghent in Madrid. It was yesterday at the school of the Art schools de Saint-Omer, it will be in Bailleul until April 15. It prefers the collective demonstrations with the exposures in solo. “The artist who lives in an ivory tower is not my style. I am curious about the work of the others…” The man nourishes himself some for better creating. Remainder, its work is very inspired by that of the large Masters: Jerome Bosch, Picasso, Direct, the sculptor Spanish baroque Gregorio Fernandez. “I would like to live like them, dream Francis DENIS, to be recognized as national artist…” For the time being, the man shares his passion coloured with the trade of teacher with the IME of Longuenesse. Completely self-educated, it was tested with the gouache and the pastel before discovering oil on wood or paper. “I had the impression to release me! ” it remembers. It paints much, quickly, without regret “One should not that I touch a work fifty times, my technique prohibits it to me. ” It paints colors sharp and cordial, funny and extreme, sometimes fulminant. His wives are pink, round, gouleyantes on blue bottom, “this blue which translates more the concept of space and freedom. ” Its Christs want to be burning: “They are a reflexion on the existence and not a mystical or religious step, specifies the painter. I wonder about the silly thing of the wars of religion. ” Many portraits, square formats and rebounded fruits. “I prefer to slip on a curve rather than to run up against me against an angle. ” Marie-Pierre GRIFFON The Echo of Pas-de-Calais n°83 (April 2007)

By its colors sharp and enjouées posed in flat tints and a stripped simple graphics, just what it is necessary, in order not to divert the attention, Francis DENIS tells us a history, doubtless its history, on each work. Always with a bit of humour, it illustrates with wonder the step of this artist who wants to be self-educated. It likes the life and over all the femininity, which it wants stripped of any artifice, in order to discover the grace of it and to reveal it to us in a setting in subtle scene of a workshop where the model subjugates by its copious forms the inspiration of the painter. Of work in work, we traverse his account as a book containing only illustrations. Its graphics is its writing and the fixed color its images, and of page on page we penetrate in a universe where it makes relatively good live there. Francis DENIS exposes regularly since 1988 and its works make the joy of the collectors in the north of France. But gradually, it gains ground and I do not believe too to advance me by predicting very soon the conquest to him of the Parisian galleries. C.GRENTE

Between the life and death, the man tries to leave his print and of touching with stars, giving a direction to what exceeds it and distresses it. The last two topics worked by the artist “Maternities” and “Passion of Christ” summarize the existential and artistic step of Francis DENIS. Paper, wood and oil on paper, remain materials of predilection for this artist who works in the urgency, while misant on the force of the color and the speed of the gesture.

“… After having encased the step of the modern painters, Francis Denis forged and refined his style. It gave up the colors évanescentes to privilege reasons with well marked contours, with the frank colors, often chatoyantes. Whatever its subjects, characters or table-pedestal tables drawn up with rigour and humour, its fabrics appear very architectural, almost purified. Francis Denis learned how to go to essence. Its colors are sharp, dense and scheduled with a graphic preoccupation with a balance. His stripped wives are put in scene in stripped interiors where one feels the métissées influences of Matisse and a culture close to the comic strip. ” North-eastern Art&Décoration n°372

“The color plays the first parts in these compositions which summarize the reason with essence. Francis DENIS seizes realism by taking care of évincer the anecdotic details to the profit of a structured minimalism, often reduced to extremely simplified geometrical structures. Working by topic, it underlines contours of the subject in a setting in very simplifying scene. Very noticed with the Linéart living room of Ghent, works of this artist will appear in the ogee mouldings of international galleries. ” Thierry SZNYTKA
