About the 'Organic chips' collection. Many important scientific inventions were borrowed from nature: aircraft, GPS, X-ray, etc. It is little thought that interaction with nature is two-way, though. The world around us thrives and evolves. Maybe nature, in its turn, can use human achievements in science and technology, but we are yet not able to understand in which way. I chose the most 'human' item - a computer chip - as the basis of this collection. What would assimilation by the nature of this technology look like?

Sides are painted to exhibit the finished painting without the need for an additional frame. All my paintings are sealed with premium acrylic final varnish. The drawing is titled and signed on the back and also comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The work will be shipped by Russian Post and should arrive within 15-20 days after dispatch. Fully tracked.

About this artwork: Classification, Techniques & Styles

Oil

Paint consisting of pigments bound with linseed oil or carnations. The traditional technique consists of superimposing layers of paint increasingly rich in oil for a solid and durable hanger.

Acrylic

Paint using traditional pigments mixed with synthetic resins.

Marker

Drawing made using a large felt with its own ink source. The ink may or may not be indelible.

Painting Pastel

Pastel is an instrument widely used in plastic arts. Taking the form of a colored plastic stick, it is composed of pigments, a filler (chalk or plaster) and a binder (gum arabic, oil, wax). We mainly distinguish fatty pastels (oil or wax), dry pastels, whether soft or hard. Invented in Europe at the end of the 15th century, this tool was very quickly used by great portrait painters of French royalty, such as Charles Le Brun, Rosalba Carriera, Jean Siméon Chardin or Maurice Quentin de La Tour, who will be considered the "Prince of pastellists", thanks to a method of fixation of which only he knew the secret.

Pastel

Drawing made with a colored stick. It consists of pigments, a charge and a binder. A distinction is made between dry pastels (soft or hard) and fatty pastels (oil or wax).

Anastasia Buoy is a mixed media painter of abstract expressionism.

She has a scientific past (Ph.D. in molecular biology). In 2018 Anastasia changed her job for art; since then, she works in her Moscow-based studio. In a similar vein with her previous field, biomedicine, Anastasia researches human-nature interaction, but from a perspective of emotional, even mystical experience.

Anastasia is an entirely self-taught artist. However, she intensively studies the history of art. Currently, she is a student at The School of Contemporary Art Free Workshops (at MMOMA).

By now, Anastasia has participated in several exhibitions in Russia; in 2021, she will participate in international events. Her artworks could be found in private collections worldwide and represented by galleries in Miami and Moscow.

Artist statement

In my practice, I use abstract expressionism style as a symbol of deep, subconscious perception of the world with structured geometric lines that represent a reversion to rational thinking. I do not limit instrumentation, using oil, acrylic, industrial marker, and even construction supplies with equal ease.

My works are notable for the process-oriented approach. Each piece represents a major reflection on a specific theme; it doesn’t hide or mask anything. The creation process is transparent: whether it was long and complicated, or easy and neat; thoughtful and meditative or expressive and bold.

Due to my past in biology, I do not acknowledge that human and nature are antagonizing matters. I feel exactly the opposite: how humanity plays with resources; how it changes the landscape and climate; how it grows and evolves – that’s incredibly natural and has happened countless times before. In my works, I intend to show that all our technologies are the same full-fledged part of nature as sea or sky, and that’s why this theme can also be researched by painting on canvas.
