The chine colle background is created onto acid-free tissue paper using watercolours. No two backgrounds of the edition are the same, and hence the variable edition.
The plate image is carborundum and drypoint. The two elements are transferred to Fabriano paper using an etching press.
The edition size is 20, and this is number 3 of the edition.

Intaglio engraving technique on a metal plate using a chemical mordant (an acid) which will serve as a support for printing.

Watercolor

Watercolor is a painting in which gum arabic binds transparent pigments revealing the support of the painting. The gouache, of identical composition, is opaque. A watercolor is a water-based painting on paper. We rarely speak of a painting for a work painted in watercolor. Watercolor paintings are considered to be a unique way to creatively represent dreams, illusions, emotions and luminous feelings using water soluble pigments. However, painting with watercolors can be difficult. It's a difficult medium to master, in large part because it can be ruthless and unpredictable. Mistakes are difficult to correct and its fluid nature makes it difficult to control. Yet it is these very qualities that give the medium its undeniable charm.

Technic Printmaking

Printmaking was originally used to communicate. Exceptional technical characteristics make it a valuable artistic medium. The artist creates an image on a flat surface to make a print. To create an original print, the artist inks the surface and presses it onto paper. Printmaking is the process of printing artworks Usually on paper but also fabric, wood, metal and other surfaces. ... Except for monotyping, all printing processes can produce identical multiples from the same artwork. The works thus produced are called prints or "impressions".

I am largely a self-taught painter/printmaker. I learned how to screenprint in late 1990s, and added further printmaking skills/techniques through workshops at Graphic Studio Dublin in 2012 (Carborundum, Photopolymer Intaglio and Monotype).
My subject matter is mainly landscape based - real and imagined.
I have exhibited my prints at RHA, RUA, International Print Center New York, Centre for Contemporary Printmaking, Norwalk, Connecticut, Eigse at Carlow Visual, Limerick Printmakers, Miniprint de Cadaques, Spain.
