Myths and dreams are the way to explore the human unconscious, becoming the key to modern art. Thus, in Faust's myth, used as a pretext for this project, touching as a narrative,
the pact of the hero with the devil has a significance in psychology and then taken over in art,
as the confrontation between the conscious, rational and the dark part of the unconscious.
The realistic portrait, which during the Renaissance highlights character, emotion or "social mask" features, in Expressionism and then in Abstract Expressionism, becomes an "inside" portrait, the experiences of the artist, the daimon of devastating passions, a portrait of the "Self".
