This sculpture, crafted with meticulous care, earned an "Honourable Mention Award" at the Art Show International Gallery Competition in February 2023. In fact, I entered six sculptures into the competition, and each received the same Honourable Mention Award, a testament to the consistency and quality of my work.
"One Lump or Two?" is built using stoneware clay and fired to 1240 degrees Celsius, ensuring durability and a distinct, earthy texture that complements the whimsical nature of the subject. The sculpture captures the essence of the Mad Hatter’s eccentricity, with intricate details that invite viewers to explore every angle. Peeping out from the Mad Hatter’s bow tie are two of Carroll’s beloved characters: the dormouse and the white rabbit. These small additions not only add to the narrative depth of the piece but also pay homage to the interconnectedness of Carroll's works.
The process of creating this sculpture was both challenging and rewarding. Each element, from the whimsical expression of the Mad Hatter to the tiny, delicate features of the dormouse and white rabbit, required precision and patience. The final piece is a celebration of Carroll’s imagination and a reflection of my own artistic journey.
In sum, "One Lump or Two?" is more than just a sculpture; it’s a tribute to the enduring charm of "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and its unforgettable characters. Through my work, I aim to capture and share the magic that Carroll so brilliantly created.
