The Legent.
At the antient time grinds were the part of sea population. Whale-men went sometimes out from the sea to find a woman that could give burth to their childs.
Where the Faroe Islands now is, the Isthmus bitween Canada and Europa was. At that time there lived a big prosperous settlement near the Atlantic Ocean, right in the region of the present-day Vagar Island.
One boy lived in the settlement. His father was lost in the sea right after his son was born. His mother died with grief in a year. The Community broaght the child up.
When the boy had grown, he together with other men fished and hunted whales.
Once he met a girl and fell in love with her. He and the girl moved in together. She gave the birth to his son. Less than a year anguish became torment the man. He could sit on a shore entire day and peer into the sea. Like he was wating someone.
In the end of that summer bonfires informed that a big school of pilot whales was coming. The grindadráp began. Boats drove the school of whales ashore. But one Grind that was notably bigger than others escaped from the trap. The boy sailed the boat to the grind. When Grinds and grindaformenn passed out of sight the boy succeeded putting a sóknarongul into the whale’s blowhole. Blood gushed from the grind and colored water red. Then the boy heard the whale told him: * I looked for you. And I found you. You are my son. With grief the boy threw himself into the water. But he was good swimmer and didn’t sink. He turned into a grind. 13 years had gone. The sone of that man went on his first grindadráp. His father was wating the son to come for him and let his blood. And then the son would remember that he is a grind too.
